Through an Orange Window
love lights up the darkest of spaces
Orange Window
A serpent stirs
Just below the surface
Black scales glisten as water slides off
Fins curved
It dives within the depths
Sunset engulfs the horizon
Molten light
It shines into a dark room
Where a man stands alone
His back is to the window’s fire
He is a silhouette
Only a shadow of who he will be
Orange light cuts through the blinds
Tiny rays draw lines
A scalpel of love’s warmth
Traces and vestiges
Of the love that he is seeking
He does not know it is dark
It is all he has ever known
His hands reach for an orange line
Streaked tears are cast down like
Magma rolls down a hill to envelop all
He feels an ache
A pain of separation
He is only mildly aware of
Something that he cannot know or see
Until it finds him
He stands in the dark waiting
Feeling each beam of light
Wondering what will be next
She is putting her children to bed
Warm white light
Walls light blue
There is laughter
As the sun sets
And the moon rises
Brilliant in their splendor
All is safe
She leaves quietly
Moved forward into flow
By that which she does not know
The sun is setting
Lines of fire strike across the water
A thousand rippling reflections refract
The Light concentrating and dispersing
Growing in brightness
A warmth is stirring from within
She opens her eyes
They are in a dark room together
They sense each other
The light enters the room to meet her
The blinds fall off the window
In a spiral that tumbles over itself into a hundred clatters
It crashes to the floor folding in on itself in pieces
Never to be hung up again
Bright orange light floods the room
It is blinding, overwhelming
It is warm serenity
It is unlike anything he has ever felt
Standing in the middle of it
He sees her
Only her.
And she is illuminated in full
The most beautiful being
His soul was ever meant to witness
In this singular moment
There is no hesitation
They run to each other
They embrace
It is held
It is held
It is held
They do not let go
It is only them in this moment
Standing together
Within this universe
A trinity of flame and truth
Of blazing embers swirling
A heat slowly builds
A spark catches flame around them
The room begins to burn away
Fire rising, crawling up its walls,
Where once existed enclosure, captivity
There is no longer
Only the starry night sky remains
A dazzling array of light
Across the Milky Way
They marvel at it
Still holding each other
Feet in the water
Standing on the shoreline
An aliveness is reflected
Against a sky of starry wonder
She finally speaks
Wonderment whispered
“They should have sent a poet.”
“They did.”
Two hearts smile.
About
This poem was written following a meditation and intention setting ritual performed during the recent summer solstice.
It is also a response to the prompt of Kasu (small wounds) in which a color is chosen to write about.
The music used in the voiceover of the poem is the song “Small Moves” from composer Alan Silvestri from the soundtrack for Contact, a shared favorite.

Immaculate voiceover btw this was so cinematic 💓
This is absolutely magical to read and listen to. What a wonderful gift you have Quill. ♥️
